Christian Tours of Rome are designed to explore Rome through a Christian Perspective. You may book these tours individually, as a part of your full day driving tour, or as a full day driving tour on its own.
Since Constantine's triumph over the pagan culture in the 4th century AD, Christianity has dominated the city of Rome. With the vast amounts of Churches and official home of the Catholic Church, it is easy to comprehend the great significance of Christianity, and how it flourished throughout the city of Rome.
THE CATHEDRAL OF SAINT JOHN IN LATERAN:
This cathedral is considered to be one of the oldest basilicas in Rome, as well as the original seat of the Bishop. This tour concentrates on the vast works of art found in the Cathedral, the collection of Vatican artifacts held within, and the Baptistery. This is also the location of one of the Vatican's holiest relics; the Scala Santa, or the Holy Stairs, which are said to have been climbed by Jesus in Jerusalem.
THE BASILICA OF SAINT MARY THE GREAT:
This large basilica is set atop the Esquiline Hill and remains one of the rare examples of a well preserved Byzantine interior. This tour specifically aims to explore the prestigious mosaic work and artistic representations that are found within the interior of the basilica. Named after the Mother Mary, this place of worship is considered to be one of the largest and most beautiful of its kind. Here we have a unique opportunity to take our clients to the closed area in the upper level of the church with a private guide provided.
Entrance to Santa Maria Maggiore Euro 10.00 per person.
THE BASILICA OF SAINT PAUL OUTSIDE THE WALL:
Located outside the Aurelian Walls, this is the final resting place of the apostle Paul. Although it is a short distance away from the city center, this basilica houses a collection of some of the Vatican's most important religious art and artifacts.
THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY CROSS IN JERUSALEM:
This church is believed to house some of most important relics dating from the time of Jesus' death, making it one of the most important sites of pilgrimage in Rome today. These relics are believed to be various parts of the original cross, as well as authentic remains of Jesus' crucifixion.
THE CHURCH OF SAINT PETER CHAINS:
This small church is dedicated to what is believed to be the chains that held imprisoned St. Peter while he was captive in the Mamertine Prison. These chains are visible today, inside the church, and are adjacent to Michelangelo's famed sculpture, the Moses.
THE VATICAN CITY AND ST PETER'S BASILICA:
As the residence of the Pope, and the largest church in the world, the Vatican City is considered to be one of the most popular destinations in the world. Whether it is works of art, or religious history you are after, rest assured that you won't be disappointed.
