Christian Tours of Rome are designed to explore Rome from a Christian perspective. You may book these tours individually, as a part of a full-day driving tour, or as a full-day driving tour of its own.
Since Constantine's triumph over the pagans in the 4th century AD, Christianity has dominated the city of Rome. With a large number of churches, and being the official home of the Catholic Church, it is easy to see the significance of Christianity, and how it flourished throughout the city of Rome.
THE CATHEDRAL OF SAINT JOHN IN LATERAN:
As the original seat of the Bishop of Rome (also the Pope), this cathedral is considered one of the oldest basilicas in Rome. This tour concentrates on the vast works of art found in the Cathedral, the collection of Vatican artifacts held within, and the Baptistery. This is also the location of one of the Vatican's holiest relics: the Scala Santa, or the Holy Stairs, which are said to have been climbed in Jerusalem by Jesus himself and brought to Rome in the 4th century.
THE BASILICA OF SAINT MARY THE GREAT:
This large basilica is set atop the Esquiline Hill and remains one of the rare examples of a well preserved Byzantine interior. The tour explores the prestigious mosaic work and artistic representations that are found within the interior of the basilica. Named after the Mother Mary, this place of worship is considered to be one of the largest and most beautiful of its kind. Here we have the unique opportunity to visit a closed area in the upper level of the church with a private guide. Entrance to Santa Maria Maggiore is €10.00 per person.
THE BASILICA OF SAINT PAUL OUTSIDE THE WALL:
Located outside the Aurelian Walls, this is the final resting place of the apostle Paul. Although it is a short distance away from the city center, this basilica houses a collection of some of the Vatican's most important religious art and artifacts.
THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY CROSS IN JERUSALEM:
This church is believed to house some of most important relics dating from the time of Jesus' death, making it one of the most important sites of pilgrimage in Rome today. These relics are believed to be various parts of the original cross, as well as authentic remains of Jesus' crucifixion.
THE CHURCH OF SAINT PETER CHAINS:
This small church is dedicated to what is believed to be the chains that held St. Peter while he was held captive in the Mamertine Prison in Jerusalem. These chains are visible today and are adjacent to Michelangelo's famed statue of Moses sculpture.
THE VATICAN CITY AND ST PETER'S BASILICA:
The Vatican City is one of the most popular destinations in the world as it contains both the residence of the Pope and the largest church in the world. Whether it be works of art, or its rich religious history, rest assured you won't be disappointed. The Vatican is home to highly-praised Museums, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica. This tour will explore the highlights of the Vatican City, with an emphasis on the burial sites of numerous Popes, and most notably, John Paul II.
We highly recommend for you to pre-purchase your Vatican tickets online for 2 pm entry.
